Astronaut:
As the artist, I present this impactful artwork portraying an astronaut in his spacesuit, drifting helplessly through the vastness of space after becoming separated from his space station, with no possibility of rescue. The astronaut gazes at his display, which starkly reveals that he has only 12 hours of oxygen left. I created this image with the intention of invoking a sense of extreme powerlessness, helplessness, and hopelessness, akin to the emotions experienced by people grappling with severe depression. By drawing parallels between the astronaut's desperate situation and the emotional struggles of those with depression, I seek to foster empathy and understanding in the viewer. The artwork poses a thought-provoking question, asking the viewer to consider what you might do if faced with the astronaut's predicament – would you wait until the end or choose to remove your helmet (symbolizing suicide)?
